STEAM Partnerships

Dock Street is a STEAM school, home of the Dock Street SHARKS that collaborates with educational institutions and organizations as part of our commitment to provide students with opportunities.

At The Dock Street School for STEAM Studies, students engage in rigorous, future-focused learning experiences that prepare them for specialized high schools, competitive STEM programs, and real-world problem solving.

Brooklyn Tech Consortium

Brooklyn Tech

We partner with Brooklyn Tech to offer our students at Dock Street many programs including

Specialized High School Admissions Test Preparation: In partnership with Brooklyn Tech and Dock Street, we provide targeted SHSAT preparation that builds strong foundations in critical reading, analytical thinking, and advanced mathematics. Through strategic instruction, practice, and academic mentorship, students gain confidence and readiness for New York City’s specialized high school admissions process.

Future World Math Competition

Students participate in the Future World Math Competition, strengthening mathematical reasoning, collaboration, and problem-solving skills through high-level challenges. This experience promotes perseverance, strategic thinking, and exposure to competitive STEM environments.

Green Architecture & Sustainable Design

Through our Green Architecture program, students explore sustainability, environmental engineering, and design thinking. Learners analyze real-world challenges and create innovative solutions that prioritize renewable energy, eco-friendly materials, and responsible urban development.

3D Printing & Design Technology

Dock Street students gain hands-on experience with 3D printing and digital design, transforming ideas into tangible prototypes. This program strengthens engineering skills, spatial reasoning, and creativity while introducing students to industry-relevant technology used in architecture, product design, and manufacturing.

Together, these programs reflect Dock Street’s commitment to equity, innovation, and excellence in STEAM education, ensuring every student has access to meaningful pathways toward college, careers, and leadership in STEM fields.

The Service Collective: Service Learning at Dock Street

Service collective The Service Collective at The Dock Street School for STEAM Studies provides students with meaningful, hands-on service-learning opportunities throughout the school year. Each week, students engage in projects that build empathy, leadership, and civic responsibility while making a real impact in our community.

Students participate in a wide range of initiatives, including filling the Red Box Food Pantry, planting trees throughout the neighborhood, creating holiday cards for community members, and supporting local organizations through service projects. These experiences are embedded into our school culture and offer students consistent opportunities to give back, collaborate, and lead with purpose.

Through the Service Collective, Dock Street students develop a strong sense of social awareness, responsibility, and pride as they learn that service is not a one-time event, but an ongoing commitment to community and kindness.

Brooklyn Boat Works:

Dock Street School is proud to partner with PS 8 through our Boatworks collaboration, an exciting hands-on learning experience that brings STEAM education to life. Now in our second year of this partnership, our students are actively engaged in designing and building a functional boat, applying real-world skills in engineering, teamwork, and problem-solving.

Students work collaboratively across schools to explore concepts such as buoyancy, structure, materials, and design, while developing critical thinking, resilience, and perseverance. This project is not just about building a boat—it’s about building confidence, collaboration, and innovation.

The experience culminates in a boat launch event, where students proudly showcase their work and celebrate the results of their dedication and creativity.

In addition to the school-year program, Boatworks also offers a summer program, providing students with continued opportunities to deepen their learning and stay engaged in hands-on STEAM experiences beyond the classroom.

Now Launching: Our New Hydroponics Lab 🌱

After two years of planning, design, and partnership, Dock Street School is proud to unveil our brand-new Hydroponics Lab—a dynamic, hands-on learning space where science, sustainability, and innovation come to life!

This cutting-edge lab allows students to grow plants without soil, using nutrient-rich water systems that model the future of agriculture. Through this experience, students will engage deeply in botany, environmental science, and sustainable food systems, while developing critical thinking and problem-solving skills aligned to our STEAM mission.

Our scholars will:

  • Cultivate and harvest fresh produce year-round
  • Study plant life cycles, ecosystems, and climate impact
  • Explore real-world applications of hydroponic farming and food equity
  • Engage in hands-on experiments and data collection
  • Connect learning to wellness, nutrition, and community impact

This lab also opens doors for student leadership, interdisciplinary projects, and partnerships, including opportunities to integrate science with technology, engineering design, and even entrepreneurship.

Rooted in our SHARK values—Self-Awareness, Honesty, Accountability, Resilience, and Kindness—this space empowers students to take ownership of their learning while contributing to a more sustainable future.

We are beyond excited to watch our students grow—both in the lab and beyond! 🌿
